How DisplayDuo uses information for trials, subscriptions, Mac activation, and payments.

Information we use

DisplayDuo uses your verified sign-in email to identify your account and subscription. We send a code when you request to sign in on the website or in the Mac app. We also keep subscription status, billing-period dates, and payment-provider subscription identifiers.

The Mac app creates a hashed device identifier. Our licensing service stores a further protected hash, rather than your Mac’s raw hardware identifier, to track the trial, activate your subscription, and enforce the two-Mac limit. We keep your computer name and activation date so you can recognize and release a Mac from your subscription.

Trial dates, temporary sign-in codes, session records, and single-use checkout handoff records help us verify sign-ins and connect purchases to your account. IP addresses and request information may be processed for hosting, rate limits, and abuse prevention.

Why we use this information

We use this information to provide the seven-day trial, check subscription access, activate up to two Macs, let you release an unused Mac, send requested verification emails, and protect the licensing service from abuse.

When you arrive from the Mac app, a single-use link signs the browser in to the app’s account with your confirmation if a different browser account is already signed in. The link token is removed from the address before Paddle loads and is redeemed only by DisplayDuo. Our server creates checkout for your verified account; sign in with the same email in the Mac app to use the subscription.

Payments through Paddle

Paddle is the merchant of record for DisplayDuo subscriptions and processes checkout, billing, payment details, receipts, taxes, and subscription management. Payment details you enter in the Paddle checkout are handled by Paddle. DisplayDuo receives subscription and transaction information needed to provide access; it does not receive your full card number.

Paddle processes your information under its own privacy policy. You can manage your subscription using the subscription-management link in your Paddle receipt email.

Cloudflare and service providers

We use Cloudflare for website and licensing-service hosting, the D1 database that stores licensing records, and Email Sending to deliver verification codes. Cloudflare processes the information needed to operate these services, including the recipient email address when sending a code.

Paddle and Cloudflare may process information in countries other than your own as part of operating their services.

Screen content and website storage

Your display stream travels directly between your Mac and your connected Android device. The licensing and checkout services do not need your screen content to verify your subscription.

Wi-Fi connections between your Mac and your Android device are encrypted with TLS 1.3. The Mac app creates its own security key on first use and stores it only on your Mac (in its Application Support folder, readable only by your account); it is never uploaded. To find your Mac on the same Wi-Fi, the Android app uses local network discovery and, if that is blocked, briefly checks addresses on your own local network for the DisplayDuo app; this information stays on your devices. A direct USB cable connection is not encrypted.

The website uses secure first-party cookies for sign-in, a temporary browser sign-in challenge, and protection against forged requests. You can log out on the website. After sign-in, the website loads Paddle’s checkout script when checkout is available. Paddle may use cookies or similar technologies needed for checkout, security, and fraud prevention. This integration adds no advertising or analytics tools.

Retention and your choices

Licensing records are used for trial enforcement, subscription access, and device management. Single-use handoff tokens and sign-in codes expire after 10 minutes. Website sign-in sessions last 30 days and renew with authenticated use; logging out revokes the current session. Paddle may retain payment records for its billing and legal obligations.

You can release an unused Mac through the app’s activation flow. To stop future billing or change payment details, use the subscription-management link in your Paddle receipt. Privacy requests concerning Paddle’s payment records can be made to Paddle through its privacy channels.
